OUR PROJECT
In this 15 minute narrative fiction film, we explore the life of a high school dropout, Maria, who attempts at all cost to remove herself from friends, family, and society. Growing up can be a challenge, especially when trying to find yourself and your place in the world. In the past, events such as war and migration quickly pushed young kids into becoming young adults at very young ages; however, this has changed significantly over the generations. The ways in which kids mature nowadays are not marked by those landmark moments that used to define the way our grandparents grew up. It is this intersectionality of youth and maturity that we explore in the telling of this story.

DESTINATION: TUCSON, AZ
The place in which our character resides is very much a part of who she is. When creating this story, writer and director Eitan Penner envisioned his hometown of Tucson, Arizona, as the land on which Maria grows. The naturally beautiful landscapes ingrained in the script would provide our set and golden hour would provide our lighting. As young up-and-coming filmmakers, we are looking to our families, friends, and our communities to help us make this project happen!

"Human beings share the same common problems. A film can only be understood if it depicts these properly."
Akira Kurosawa
